Morning on the river

Fog on the river Thursday morning meant yet another (pleasant) delay. It was a dreamy, frothy sunrise, cloaked in soft shades of gray.

This pic is for my granddaughter Emily, who has a “thing” about spiders.. This guy was trying to hitchhike down the river, but I relocated him to a leaf at Sugar Island. I know Emily would approve.

We made a very short run to the Marseilles lock only to wind up waiting another 4 hours to lock through. We went in circles for a couple of hours, using very expensive diesel fuel to go nowhere. :( We also tried to tie off to one of the concrete cells before the lock, but the wind kept shoving us around, causing us considerable worry for Escape’s beautiful body.

Finally, we were locked through with several other boats one of which rafted with us and had a four-legged passenger. He and Makenzie had quite the conversation!

Another alteration of our plans caused us to stop at a very tiny private yacht club, Spring Valley Boat and Canoe Club. The people couldn’t have been nicer and welcomed us onto the fuel dock and into an ice cold Blue Moon. Heavenly, after a hot day.

Sunset was glorious. In the picture is Grand Cru, a looper boat we traveled with all day, along with Lady M., a Grand Banks.

Bob had started cooking our dinner in the morning and finished the cannelloni bean and pasta dish served up with a crispy salad bathed in his famous homemade ranch dressing for dinner. Tired but happy , sated and secure, we turned on the AC and slept soundly despite being right below the Spalding Street bridge.
